Come share the fun and fellowship as we share our favorite pieces of critter jewelry.   Whether elegant, sentimental or whimsical, these jool pets, gathered from around the world, have stories to tell and are a delight to behold!

Coro "Feline Beauty" Jelly Belly Brooch

This adorable jelly belly feline is quite rare and was produced in 2 styles.  Happily, I found this feisty version with the ruff around its neck — the older, sterling version with a rose gold finish.  I was thrilled to have won the auction in the last few seconds with a margin of pennies.  (1945 patent, 1946 ad)

Coro Frog Duette

These enameled sterling froggies can be worn together as a brooch or can separate to be worn as clips, jumping in different directions. As a child, one of my greatest joys was to find pollywogs in ponds and puddles, bring them home in a jar, and watch their transformation into frogs.  My mother was less pleased when their metamorphosis was complete and they hopped around the house!

Dogs Playing Poker

I love this brooch because it embodies all that I like about figurals.  Crafted in the 1940s of wood and bakelite, it shows two dogs playing poker.  It has movement, tons of expression and personality, and humor.  Plus, it was featured in an article about The Dog Jewelry Museum in a national magazine, The Bark!  I bought it from an old friend and jewelry dealer (Lonny Rosen of Ooh Ahh Antique Jewelry) who helped me get started in the jewel biz, making it extra special.

Kenneth Lane Gecko Brooch

Gecko lizards are seen in abundance where we live in Florida.  While this creature in used in all forms of tropical decor, Kenny sure knew how to accessorize this guy!  It measures 3¾" x 1"  — just about the size of the real ones.

Catskills Kitty

This pin is special to me because in 1993, shortly after the vet told me my funny and wonderful 16 year old orange Maine Coon, Brucie, had end-stage kidney and liver disease and not long to live, I found this beauty staring up at me in a dusty case in a country antique center -- sort of serendipity in the Catskills. Not only is it the same color as Brucie, but it is French, and totally unique, as was Brucie (unique, not French). So, for me, this pin IS my Brucie.

Mexican Bluebird

Meet Beto Pajaro - translation: Beto Bird. Beto, my little sparkly friend, flew into my life several years ago and has remained dear to my heart because of the years I spent living in the Mexican jungle. Have you ever seen another sombrero and serape wearing critter? I didn't think so. He resides in my jewelry box, and I smile every time I see him — he's just so darn cute and happy!

Chimp Ballerina

This chimp ballerina is my silliest "pet".  I love jewel oddities, and this certainly qualifies.  And something that brings a smile is always welcome!  [Ed. note:  could her name be "Peaches"?]

My Horses ~ Real & Jool

This is just a small sample - one only has to look at the photo and you will see why I have chosen these pieces for my collection.  Each one has the 'look' of one of my horses.  Every time I put on one of these brooches, I'm reminded of that wonderful horse partner and their generous and unique personality.

Mine All Mine!

This wood bunny pin holds vintage velveteen carrots with pearl accents.  I found the carrots at our local flea market, and asked Brad Elfrink (the Bakelite carver - who started out carving wood) to make me a bunny to go with them.  I was delighted with the result - the way the bunny is obviously not going to let anyone take his carrots away from him!

"Soaring High"

This hat ornament captivates me, conveying freedom and adventure.  I will be flying for the first time next year and hope to experience something of what these geese feel as they soar through the air.
